I started working at Magnum in March 2013 as a Senior Sales Assistant in the Household Chemicals department. Back then, it was just a job for me. I wasn't thinking about a career — I just wanted to do my work well.
Six months later, they offered me the position of Section Manager for Non-Food. I was scared. I was young, had no experience, and didn't believe in myself. All I could think was, "I'm not ready. I can't do this."
Then someone asked me a question that changed everything: "Asem, why are you any different from anyone else?"
My colleagues and managers believed in me more than I believed in myself. That's how my journey began—from Sales Assistant to Section Manager, then to Store Administrator, Deputy Store Director, and now I'm the Store Director of one of the largest Magnum stores in Almaty.
In 13 years at Magnum, my biggest achievement is becoming a real leader for my team. We've had many great moments together. In 2022, I won the "Best of the Best" award. In 2025, our store was named "Best Store," and we also won "Most Creative Merchandising Display." But these awards aren't just mine—they belong to my whole team. We earned them together.
People often ask me: "Could you have grown this fast in another company?" My honest answer is yes—I think I could have built a career anywhere. But I don't know if I would have found the same growth, the same opportunities, and most importantly, the same trust that Magnum gave me.

Through all these years, my biggest motivation has been my children. I wanted them to be proud of me. Today, I can say for sure—they are.

To everyone just starting their journey at Magnum, I want to say this:

Don't doubt yourself. If others believe in you, learn to believe in yourself too. When an opportunity comes, don't let fear stop you—take it.

Magnum gives everyone a chance. What you do with that chance is up to you.
Every time you open the app, collect points, or get a personal offer — that's the result of my team's work. And yet, back in 2022, I joined Magnum just to create landing pages for the website.

Today I lead a department, and together with my team, we develop a product used by 2 million people. Sounds big, but behind that number are real people, their trust, and our daily work.

On March 1, 2022, I started my journey at Magnum as a landing page development manager. At first, it was just a job, but soon I realized that here you can grow and actually influence real business results.

Over time, I started to understand processes and customer behavior better. Thanks to my colleagues, I began to see not just the task in front of me, but the bigger picture. That's how trust from the team and my manager grew. And when there's trust, there's space to grow and confidence in your decisions.

Seeing that trust, I made a conscious choice to take on more responsibility and get involved in tasks that affect results. It's definitely a risk, but that's how professional growth happens.
Today I lead a team and develop a product in the loyalty program space that influences customer behavior and the business as a whole. And most importantly, we're creating something that has no equivalent in Kazakhstan's retail market. That's what gives my work special meaning every day.
Magnum gives every employee space to grow. Here, it's impossible to stand still — the market and the pace constantly push you to become better. This rhythm isn't for everyone, but for us, it's exactly the kind of environment we want to stay in.
In 2019, I came to Magnum for an interview for the Store Director position. I already had management experience.
Аt the end of the interview, I heard a sentence I'll never forget:
"We'd like to entrust you with a challenging store. There are difficulties there, but it will also give us a chance to see your leadership in action and assess your potential."
That's how I became the Store Director of Magnum at Moskva Mall.

At the time, however, the biggest challenge wasn't the processes—it was the people. I joined an established team with its own habits, traditions, and ways of working. My mission wasn't just to manage the store, but to become part of the team and create a better working atmosphere.

We organized outdoor team outings, held branch events, and I made time to speak with every employee personally. Little by little, step by step, we became a real team—not because anyone was told to, but because we chose to trust and support one another.

There was also a moment when I almost left the company.

I remember thinking, "I can't do this anymore." It wasn't just exhaustion—it was burnout. The kind where you wake up in the morning and no longer understand why you're going to work.

I decided to take unpaid leave. Not to rest, but to reconnect with myself. I needed to understand what had led me to that point and how to make sure it wouldn't happen again.

Looking back, it was one of the most honest decisions of my career—and it was the right one.

I returned to work with renewed energy, and I'm deeply grateful to both my managers and the company for supporting me through that period.

One of the brightest moments of my journey came in 2024, when I spoke at the company's conference in Astana.

I had to present in front of colleagues from across the entire company. I'm a hands-on leader—someone who's used to solving problems on the ground. Public speaking was something completely different.

I was more nervous than I had been in years.

But after the first couple of minutes, when I saw the genuine interest from colleagues representing every region, something changed. I felt pride, relief, and a new realization: "I'm capable of far more than I ever thought."

What I've Learned Along the Way

Over the years, I've learned to trust my team and delegate responsibilities so I can focus on what matters most. I've learned to lead projects, navigate crises, and speak confidently in front of large audiences.
Today, my goal is to become an even better leader — not just a manager, but someone who inspires, motivates, and helps others grow.

I continue learning, improving my time management skills, and investing in my own development.

Because one thing is certain: At Magnum, there is no ceiling. The only limits are the ones you set for yourself—and your willingness to push beyond them.

In 2021, I walked into a Magnum store just to find a job that would fit my studies. Honestly? I wasn't even thinking about a career. It just seemed like a part-time gig, and I never imagined that one day I’d be heading a department at the Head Office.

Everything changed when they offered me the role of Order Processing Operator. For the first time, I felt that people believed in me even more than I believed in myself. I was scared to say yes, but I did. I mastered the internal systems, learned how to process orders, and suddenly realized: I actually like this. It turned out that operational work was just the beginning, and I wanted to grow further.

After finishing college and entering university, I made a life-changing decision — to build a career in my field. That’s how I moved from the sales floor to the Head Office as an Inventory Accountant. It was a real leap into the unknown: from a familiar store to the very heart of the company's business processes. I was scared, but my ambition and dreams of a big career were stronger.

Things went uphill from there, but with serious challenges. I grew into a Senior Accountant, and a year ago, I was offered the chance to lead the Payroll Accounting Department. I hesitated for a long time. After all, we were talking about calculating salaries for around 10,000 employees! That’s a massive responsibility where the cost of a mistake is very high and every single detail matters.

But my colleagues and managers supported me. Their belief in me helped me believe in myself, and tough tasks stopped seeming impossible. Today, I keep growing: I’m implementing automation, optimizing processes, and making my team's work more efficient. And I know my team will always have my back.
Is it worth working at Magnum?

Absolutely yes! There’s a place here for an 18-year-old student and an experienced 35-year-old professional alike. The doors to opportunity are always open — the main thing is not to be afraid to walk through them. The company genuinely supports, trains, and provides resources. Whether you grow within a store or move to the Head Office is entirely up to you. It’s all in your hands!
